CAMOUFLAGE

THE JUXTAPOSITION AND IRONY IN THE INTENTION TO CONCEAL WHILST MAKING A BOLD STATEMENT.

THE NARRATIVE

The concept of “camouflage,” is borrowed from the French word camoufler, “to disguise.”
Borrowing from nature, a collaboration between artist & naturalists launched a new artform
of camoufleur invented for warfare in the early 20th century. This new discipline was heavily
inspired by techniques found in Cubist paintings and Renaissance trompe l’oeil (“fool the eye”) art.

THE LOOK

There is no denying its utilitarian roots, designed to be useful and practical. The underlying message, hidden in colours associated to create a form of armor and protection, holding the purpose to hide and conceal. The juxtaposition and irony in the intention to conceal whilst making a bold statement, is evident in this collection though, and there is a wide variety of camo-inspired prints and textures.

TECHNIQUES

Among others, we have applied our FSDX-fusing technique combining a fabric like wool and ripstop
with the boldness of the camouflage prints adding layers of expression to the leather. With our signature leather textures such as tectonic, we mixed it with a mini camouflage print, creating an entirely new and contemporary interpretation of this iconic manifestation. A variety of animal inspired prints, graphic layers, and subtle perforation completes a wide-ranging camo leather collection.
